Our first official Field Trip in partnership with the Blaine Birch Bay Parks & Recreation District #2 was a great success. We filled their 14 passenger bus with folks excited to spend the day viewing the gorgeous floral display. Our destination was Garden Roslyn, one of the newest installations in the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.

Community Assistance – Sea Mar Community Health tables at the Blaine Public Library to assist folks with navigating resources for state and federal medical assistance, cash and food assistance programs. Every other month DSHS Mobile Office visits the Library providing easy access to DSHS services. Check Library calendar to confirm dates/times.
- Oct. 14, Wed. Living with Bears, 6-7pm at the Blaine Library. Come and learn about the biology, habits and status of Grizzly and Black bears in Washington. Representatives from the Conservation District and Dept. of Fish & Wildlife will be on hand to tell us everything we wanted to know about bears!!
- Oct. 14, Wed. Brewing Kombucha 101, 5:30-7:30pm (at the Center). Known as “The Elixir of Life”, Kombucha origins remain shrouded in mystery. Some drink it for health, some for flavor. If you have never tried it, now is your chance! We invite you to get in touch with your inner “Ghengis” by learning more about this interesting elixir at this fun, informative presentation. We will be sampling different flavors, demonstrating how to make your own AND sending you home with your own culture (SCOBY) to start brewing your own. Free – NW-CORE

- Oct. 19, Mon. Decorating Tote Bags – 3:30pm, $5 registration fee We will supply the felt to decorate a tote bag with your favorite fall designs. Make a candy bag for Halloween featuring a witch or black cat/bat, or decorate with a fall owl or bird – register on-line or in the office
- Oct. 22, Thurs. Beginning Sewing Class, 9am-12noon at Blaine/Sr. Center, Join Mischelle in learning how to use your sewing machine! Bring sewing machine, 1 yard of fabric of your choice (med weight cotton preferred), fabric scissors, and sewing pins. We do have limited supplies (sewing machine, fabric, etc.) available upon request. Cost $25. Participants must be 16. Can register on-line or in the office.
- Oct. 23: The Pot That Won the West: Dutch Oven Cooking Birch Bay Activity Center $15 registration. Main meal and dessert included. Bring your own beverage. Can register on-line or in the office.
- Oct. 24 – Trick or Treating on the Birch Bay Berm, 3-5pm – Enjoy an afternoon of fun and friends as you meet and greet local businesses & neighbors while your kids get a head start on their Halloween candy collection. LINK dress for weather, maybe be cancelled if severe weather occurs.
- Oct. 27 – Jewelry Club at the Community Center, 3-5pm, bring your project, broken or old jewelry or pieces of jewelry and drop in to get creative! Folks share their experience, lots of materials available and supplies, tool provided. $3 drop in fee. Will happen monthly on the last Tues of each month.
- Oct. 28, Wed. It’s a Karaoke Monster Mash! Just in time for Halloween, join us at 1pm to sing along!
- Oct. 28, Wed. Garden to Bed & Digging Dahlias, 5:30-7:30 at the Blaine Library – Overview of putting your garden to bed. How to best create a healthy start for next year and minimize your chores. Protecting your plants from the ravages of winter and getting an early start on planting in the spring. We will also be talking about how to dig/divide your Dahlias and/or protect them for “in the ground storage”. Handout for dividing perennials will also be available. - Oct. 30, Friday – Halloween Dance Party, 5:30-7:30pm Blaine Comm/Sr. Center Get ready to dance, play, and celebrate Halloween! Come dressed in your favorite costume and dance the night away to Halloween music at this family-friendly party. Kids can enjoy games, activities, and plenty of spooky fun, while snacks are provided for everyone to enjoy. All ages are welcome, so grab your crew, put on your costume, and join us for a Halloween night full of music, games, and festive spooky fun! $5 admission at the door.

- Nov. 2, Mon. – Paint Your Own Mug, 5:30-6:30pm, Blaine Community/Senior Ctr. Create a one-of-a-kind mug that’s uniquely yours! We’ll provide the mugs and paints, and you bring the creativity. After painting, leave your mug with us for the curing process. Your finished mug will be ready for pickup the following week. Cost $15 All craft classes – can register on-line or in the office.
- Nov. 4, Wed. Bulbs for Spring Color, 5:30-7:30 at the Blaine Library Time to order and plant those tulips, crocuses, hyacinths, daffodils, etc! It’s easy to create naturalized plantings for specific flower beds. We will talk about forcing bulbs for an indoor display that will brighten your winter days. Free, Blaine CORE

- Nov. 14, Sat. Homemade Sauerkraut, 10am-12noon at the Blaine Library Yup, good old-fashioned homemade, delicious and crispy kraut, made right in your kitchen, easy & HEALTHY!! Can be made with lower salt levels, when you make it. Natural pro&pre biotics to help your micro-biome. We will cover all the basics of fermentation. - Nov. 16, Mon. Holiday Tin House Decorating, 1pm at the Community Center, $5 registration fee Get creative and bring a little winter magic to life! Each participant will receive a charming tin barn-style house to transform into their own festive winter scene. You can register craft classes on-line or at in the office.
- Nov. 19, Thurs. Winter Lanterns, 5-6pm at the Blaine Community/Senior Center All ages – Participants will decorate mason jars using paint markers, stencils, ribbon, and seasonal accents. Each jar will be fitted with a battery-operated tea light for illumination. The finished lantern will serve as a winter decorative piece. Materials cost $10/person. All craft classes can be registered for on-line or in the office.

Tables set up to help you create ornaments, write cards to active military personnel, build festive holiday earrings and more. Bonus is a Cookie Exchange, bring two dozen (homemade or storebought) to exchange for a wide variety for your holiday sharing and enjoyment.

- Dec. 4 & 5, Fri/Sat – Blaine Night Market 4-9:30pm, Blaine Library Parking Lot Over 35 vendors, food and beverage trucks, beautiful decorations to get you in the holiday spirit. Live music and crafts, sponsored by the Blaine Music Festival
- Dec. 5, Sat. Mason Bee Cocoon Cleaning Workshop, 9:30-11:30am at the Community Center – FREE This will be a hands-on demo/workshop. Please bring your cocoons in tubes, boards, etc. and willing hands. We are offering a supervised opportunity to learn how to clean your mason bee cocoons to improve your population (and share with friends). Please email fruit@blain-core.com to get further descriptions of how to transport your cocoons and the supplies that you will need.
